Djibouti Friendly™ Mosquito Program
About us
A ground-breaking public-private partnership formed to combat Africa’s new urban malaria threat
In 2012, the invasive Anopheles stephensi mosquito was first detected in Djibouti, where it has since fuelled an unprecedented increase in urban malaria. And it’s now spreading across Africa, posing a threat to more than 100 million people.
In response, and at the invitation of the Government of Djibouti, the Djibouti Friendly™ Mosquito Program – a ground-breaking public-private partnership between the country’s National Malaria Program, the not-for-profit Association Mutualis and Oxitec – was formed to advance a new, sustainable Oxitec solution for this growing urban malaria threat.
